Professor Sudipta Purkayastha
is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the BUPA Cromwell Hospital and Spire Alexandra Hospital and a Professor at Imperial College, London.
He graduated from Calcutta Medical College, India in 1969, where he was the General Secretary of the Students’ Union. He was awarded a merit scholarship as well as many prizes including a gold medal. He studied his Master degree (MS) in General Surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi, India. Following his work as a Specialist Surgeon (1975-79) in Iran, he came to the UK and trained in Trauma and Orthopaedics, where he obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons: FRCS, MSc (Orth) (Lond), FRCS (Tr & Orth). Professor Sudipta Purkayastha has over 32 years experience in General Orthopaedic Surgery and a special interest in lower limb surgery; in particular, foot and ankle surgery and problems. He is fluent in many languages from the Indian subcontinent and Persian.
